**The Role**
The Command Safety Manager (CSM) will plan, lead and manage the delivery of work, health and safety programs and assurance across the 1st (Australian) Division (1 (AS) Div). Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff of Headquarters 1 (AS) Div, the CSM will manage an integrated team of Defence and APS staff and provide oversight, coaching and advice to safety officers in subordinate formations. The CSM will provide guidance and recommendations through written and oral briefs to senior executives in 1 (AS) DIV, on the management of policy, procedures and of WHS incidents. Working with senior Army and Defence WHS staff, the CSM will represent 1 (AS) Div at Army level WHS meetings and working groups.
Through a highly developed understanding of WHS process and policy, the CSM will ensure compliance and assurance against defined Army models and adherence to broader WHS legislation.
**About our Team**
1 (AS) Div commands the Army’s conventional forces and is responsible for delivering the land component to Australian Defence Force Operations and activities, through the command and control of a diverse range of subordinate Brigades and Direct Command Units. The WHS team forms part of Headquarters 1 (AS) Div, to ensure the delivery of WHS effects to subordinate formations provides advice and guidance to senior management and ensures that WHS processes and actions comply with Defence policy and legislative requirements. The WHS team supports the 1 (AS) Div organisation across a range of sustainment and training tasks, combined with operations and activities in Australia and overseas.
