**Your new role**
The Independent Advisor IAC is accountable, under broad direction, to undertake very complex work that delivers quality outcomes across the functions of the IAC. The Independent Advisor IAC will take key work direction through the IAC’s principal member. IAC’s principal member will also monitor deliverables.
The Independent Advisor IAC will work in conjunction with IAC’s Senior Independent Advisor. This role will be primarily responsible for supporting the work of IAC’s four reference groups but may also do work with IAC. Another key focus of this role will be supporting IAC and reference group members who live with intellectual disability or are young people. This may include one on one support to build capacity and / or establishment of peer support mechanisms.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Working with IAC’s Principal Member, IAC members, IAC Reference Group members and IAC Secretariat to identify and propose solutions to strategic challenges facing the organisation and its participants.
- Supporting reference group members from a range of cohorts to engage well with IAC.
- Provide pre briefs and mentoring as required.
- Facilitating reference group meeting discussions.
- Undertaking research on behalf of the reference groups.
- Assist with the development and delivering discussion papers, reports, and advice to IAC for submission to the organisation's Board.
- Assisting with independent projects on special topics from the IAC and reference group work plans.
- Progressing work of IAC sub-groups and joint organisation - IAC working groups.
- Supporting induction of new IAC and reference group members.
**What you'll need to succeed**
In this role you will demonstrate capability including:
- An understanding of lived experience and understanding of the disability sector; providing expert advice and strategic direction that is regarded as an authoritative source.
- Sound strategic understanding of the organisation's operating environment, particularly as it pertains to those living with disability and advice the IAC may wish to provide.
- Experience in devising and implementing strategic advice expertise and research to continually improve the provision of Advice.
- Experience in developing advice that considers workplans, corporate priorities, the disability system, and its mainstream interfaces.
- Experience in managing strategic, advisory, or legislated relationships.
- Experience in writing for government organisations.
- Ability to representing the IAC in high level discussions and negotiations with key stakeholders, including external providers and organisations to share information, explain expectations and influence outcomes.
- Be an Australian Citizen.
**What you'll get in return**
