**Position Overview**

The Australian National University is looking for a leader to run its institutional business development team, based in the portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation. Joining a high performing leadership group in the new Office of Research and Innovation Services, the position will be responsible for growing business opportunity development across the University’s seven discipline-based Colleges.

The Associate Director, Business Development is responsible for the strategic design and implementation of College-specific pipelines to strengthen entrepreneurial culture, draw on College and School capabilities, and match with government, industry and university priorities. The position plays a significant role in delivering on the institution’s research income targets, in collaboration with funding and commercial development streams in the Office of Research and Innovation Services and ANU Enterprise, as well as allied teams in the Office of Commonwealth and Government Relations, Advancement and the National Indigenous Business Development Hub.

Vitally, the role works in partnership with academic and professional leadership in the University’s Colleges to help define, and ensure support is delivered against, College strategic priorities as they relate to partnerships with end users of research and related funding.

The University’s seven academic Colleges each comprise a number of Schools and Research Centres specialising across the range of HASS and STEM disciplines, both relevant and unique in Australia and our region. As such the position develops and manages relationships across the public, private and community sectors. The Business Development team supports activity across all Colleges, and is closely aligned to each one’s research or innovation service team to provide comprehensive support to the University. From a business development team integrated with Colleges and delivering against College priority projects, the Associate Director, Business Development is pivotal in helping integrate cross-University opportunities of scale.

The position is part of a unique team with a track record of developing partnerships of high social and commercial impact, accelerating start-up success, and driving new and internationally recognised engagement approaches to working with government and industry. To be successful in the role you will be an exceptional communicator and leader who can successfully build and nurture relationships with stakeholders from various industries and across the University. Your demonstrated experience with the development, implementation and scaling of commercial, project and partner pipelines will help drive the strategic objectives of the University and its Colleges.
