The Mai-Wel Group has been providing a diverse range of disability services to residents of the Hunter Valley for almost 60 years. What began as a group of local families coming together to provide education and opportunity to their children has today developed into a thriving business supporting more than 1,500 participants across seven Local Government areas.
**Description**:
We are looking for Disability Support Workers to join a great team As part of the Mai-Wel Community Living team, your role will be to support our participants in engaging with their local community. This can include supporting them to build personal independence, develop friendships and achieve their goals whatever they may be We are looking for a person passionate about supporting and connecting with people with a disability and supporting them to overcome barriers to access their community whether that be going to events or just going for coffee with friends. No two days will be the same as you never know what's around the corner in community living.
We are after a Disability Support Worker to support young males. Your day may include watching a Knights game, shooting hoops at Timezone or heading down to the local for raffles.
Each day is different and varied, so something for everyone. Help people reach their goals with fitness and independence across different areas in the community.
At the moment we are looking for someone to do 15 hours per week, but their is always an opportunity for more hours for the right person.
**Skills and Experiences**:
Essential
- People Orientated and is keen to actively support and engage in activities
- Enthusiastic and energizing approach
- Ability to think on your feet and have an inclusive mindset
- Proven ability to work unsupervised
- Drivers License
- First Aid Certificate
- Positive approach
- Time management skills
**Desirable**:
- Experience working with individuals with lived experience of mental health
- Experience providing personal care
- Experience working with behaviours support
- Experience working with persons with a disability
