**About The Role**
The National Health Information & Patient Services Manager provides strategic and operational leadership within health information services. This leadership includes medical records management, medical transcription, clinical coding, clinical information systems, the collection and provision of clinical data in accordance with medical, legal, ethical and legislative requirements across our national network.
This role has responsibility for planning, developing, implementing and managing health information services and systems including the quality, integrity, accuracy and confidentiality of electronic and paper medical records; clinical coding, DRG grouping and analysis of clinical information for billing and health fund negotiations, quality and research purposes; data submission to external parties; health record forms design; development and implementation of policy and procedures associated with control, use, storage and retrieval of health information and the management, training and development of the health information team. In addition, this role is accountable for the coordination of access to, and release of, health information as Icon’s Privacy Officer and is the legal custodian of the medical record in both electronic and written format.

**Key Tasks & Responsibilities**
- In collaboration with clinical leaders and other relevant Icon personnel, plan, develop, implement, manage and administer health information services.
- Provide guidance to site medical record departments to ensure that appropriate storage, retrieval and destruction of all written and electronic medical records are in accordance with current Icon policies and procedures.
- Coordinate quality improvement activities to ensure data integrity of the medical record (both in written and electronic formats) and clinical coding accuracy.
- Analyse clinical data for billing, quality and research purposes; data submission to external parties and health fund contract negotiations.
- Ensure Icon is transferring mandatory activity data for all sites through data submissions to internal and external third parties in a timely manner. This includes government departments, cancer registries and health funds.
- Evaluate clinical data collection regularly to ensure there is continuous improvement and that data collected is of a high-quality
- Manage the design and life cycle of new and existing medical record forms whilst complying with Australian Standards (e.g. AS2828) and statutory requirements.
- Management of HIM staff to ensure that enquiries regarding release of information requests under various Acts and Subpoenas; third parties; public/patients; and other Health facilities are undertaken whilst meeting our legal and statutory requirements in a timely manner
- Facilitate recruitment, selection and training of HIM, clinical coding and medical transcription staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and facilitate continued development and training of all direct reports.
- Liaise with VMOs, nurses, other health professionals and administrative team members to ensure management, training and development of the health information management team
**Skills & Experience**
- Bachelor of Health Science/Business (Health Administration - **Health Information Management**)
- Eligibility for membership to HIMAA
- Previous Health Information Management experience within a hospital or health care setting
- Auditing experience and moderate to advanced spreadsheet skills
- Post Graduate Qualifications in Health Informatics, Information Technology, Education/Vocational Training _desired not mandatory_
- Experience in, and a working knowledge of clinical coding using the current ICD edition; AR-DRGs and the private hospital sector.
- Experience in clinical forms design and management, medical record practices and associated national standards within a hospital and practice management setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, engage and delegate initiatives to individuals/teams and hold them accountable ensuring a culture of success to achieve the Strategic Goals, Vision, Mission and Values of Icon.
