**About the Role**:
Reporting to the Surveillance Program Specialist, the Field Surveillance Officer works across the state in the development of strategies, policies and procedures and the conduct surveillance activities to support the prevention, detection, and investigation of environmental crime (related to pollution and waste).
**In this role you will**:
- As directed by the Surveillance Program Specialist, oversight, plan and deliver surveillance activities (technical, physical, and aerial) to obtain relevant information and intelligence to prevent, detect and investigate environmental crime (related to pollution and waste).
- Capture, monitor and record information relevant to surveillance utilising a variety of surveillance devices, ensuring all legislative, process and compliance obligations are met.
- Contribute to evidentiary material, including internal reports, statements, affidavits, and other documentation to support investigations and litigation; attend legal proceedings and give evidence obtained through surveillance activities.
- Work collaboratively with co-regulators to drive improved environmental and public health outcomes; and provide local intelligence to inform EPA’s strategic regulatory priorities.
- Collaborate with investigators, regional operations teams, Legal Branch, Data Analytics and Intelligence Unit and other parts of EPA in delivering EPA’s strategic regulatory priorities
**Skills and Experience**:
- A relevant tertiary degree or qualifications in investigations, law or a related discipline is desirable.
- Demonstrated operational experience in the management and conduct of physical or technical surveillance (including covert is desirable) in a law enforcement, intelligence, or regulatory body.
- Knowledge of contemporary techniques for the conduct of proactive and reactive investigations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategies, policies, and procedures for the conduct of physical and technical surveillance.
- A broad understanding of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
