The Environmental Site Surveillance Officer is responsible for providing on site environmental support to significant project and asset management works ensure compliance with environmental and heritage legislation and rail internal procedures. As well as performing duties specified in this position description you will also be required to perform other duties from time to time as directed by management. The Environmental Site Surveillance Officer is responsible for providing staff a safe work place where risks are identified, understood and managed and a safe environment for customers and visitors is maintained.

The Environmental Site Surveillance Officer is responsible for providing staff a safe workplace where risks are identified, understood and managed and a safe environment for customers and visitors is maintained.

**Functional Responsibilities**:

- Reviewing environmental controls and construction environmental management plans (CEMP)
- Attending site inspection and pre-start meetings
- Inducting staff and contractors into the site ensuring comprehension of environmental controls (legislation, procedures, CEMP)
- Routinely inspecting sites during works to ensure compliance to environmental controls
- Monitoring and reporting on site environmental performance
- Liaison with a broad range of stakeholders, internally and externally
- Maintaining site diaries and escalating issues with Environment & Heritage Business Partner as required
- Providing practical advice to onsite staff on environmental management
- Identify relevant business risks and work with management on mitigation strategies in area of responsibility
- Work with colleagues to find solutions to problems and improvements to ways of working that focuses on reducing costs, improving productivity and increasing effectiveness
- Balancing competing interests e.g. rail maintenance works versus biodiversity protection
- Ensure compliance with all statutory obligations, internal policies and procedures
- Develop and implement plans to minimise impacts on customers during times of disruption
- Attending sites upon completion of works and verifying satisfactory completion and clean up
- Other tasks relating to environment and heritage management as required

**Qualifications**:

- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Sciences/Engineering or related discipline
- Experience in rail, construction or related industry highly regarded
- Current RIW Card (or ability to obtain one)
- Current White Card (or ability to obtain one)
- Current Driver's Licence (Full AU Licence)
