**The Role**:
Experienced and capable APS6 Communications Specialist to join this Federal Government client.

This is a 6-month non-ongoing role with possibility of extension. Must be an Australian citizen with Government experience. Immediate start.

**The Job**
- Undertake new, complex or critical public affairs work, under a routine level of supervision.
- Prepare more complex materials for public relations or public communications activities.
- Edit the work of PAO1s and/or other contributors.
- Develop and implement communication strategies for less complex public affairs activities.
- Advise internal stakeholders regarding communications approaches and strategies.
- Brief enabling services and suppliers such as graphic designers, video production, web design and publication.
- Prepare submissions, briefs and correspondence.
- Undertake research and analysis of issues relevant to the work area and undertake evaluation of the impact of communications strategies, including making recommendations for change as needed.
- Liaise within the department and assist in liaison with external stakeholders as appropriate.
- Arrange and support meetings, events and working groups.
- Manage or assist in managing a team including leading, developing, coaching and providing constructive feedback to staff, monitoring budgets and team performance.
- Liaise and negotiate with external stakeholders, industry, community, media and government organisations.

**Knowledge and experience**
- Demonstrated experience in building and sustaining productive relationships with a range of stakeholders, including internal and external stakeholders.
- Strategic communication experience.
- Good understanding, or the ability to quickly gain a good understanding, of the relevant work and its relevant legislative, regulatory and compliance frameworks.

**Skills and capabilities**
- A problem solver: able to identify and develop solutions for complex communication, engagement and social media issues. Able to deliver high quality work, especially in developing, implementing and evaluating communication strategies.
- A communicator: strong written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
- A relationship manager: ability to build and sustain relationships, including negotiating confidently with a range of stakeholders and clients whilst working collaboratively within the team and branch.
- An organiser: proven experience in prioritising and managing projects from start to finish, monitoring project progress. and adjusting plans and activities as required to meet deadlines.
- An emerging leader: open, supportive and capable of bringing out the best in more junior staff.

**Desirable qualifications**

A cadetship or a relevant public affairs degree or diploma and/or 5 years' relevant work experience in a similar role.
