OVERVIEW
The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) is one of the world’s leading performing arts academies, delivering the most comprehensive range of performing arts training in Australia. Our students develop their skills on-stage as an actor, dancer or musician, or behind the scenes in production, design or arts management.

WAAPA’s Bachelor of Performing Arts is seeking experienced, inspirational lecturers to join the team at a pivotal moment for WAAPA at Edith Cowan University.

WAAPA will move into its brand-new world-class city campus in Yagan Square in the Perth CBD in 2026 as part of an exciting expansion plan. ECU’s CBD campus will bring together teaching and research in the areas of Creative Industries, Law, Business and Technology. This will be where innovative thinkers, adaptive learners and global citizens meet to develop into the leaders of tomorrow. This is unequivocally the most exciting time of all to join the university as it embarks on this further growth and transformational journey.

THE ROLES
WAAPA is looking to appoint 2 part time lecturers in the Bachelor of Performing Arts.

**Position 1**: Actor training and/or Vocal Training
**Position 2**: Devised, site specific or physical performance

Please note that both positions require a capacity to teach both studio-based practice and contextual theory and history related to that practice such as history of Australian Theatre, and the history and theory of theatre and performance.

WAAPA’s Bachelor of Performing Arts is an incubator for future cultural leaders and artists who are passionate about telling stories and driving change in the global performing arts landscape. Students build the foundational skills necessary for a contemporary career in independent and commercial performance making, and the field of performance making as social practice.

As part of the Performance Making major, students start with intensive training in voice and movement studies, before advancing to original, self-devised and collaborative approaches to creating, producing, and presenting independent contemporary performance projects.

Students explore contemporary and progressive approaches to performance making as social practice, investigating the role of performance in social transformation through its intersections with power, politics, sex, gender, disability, and the institution. Students test this knowledge through the facilitation of a range of applied performance projects in partnership with industry and the community.

SELECTION CRITERIA

**QUALIFICATIONS**: Relevant tertiary qualifications (ideally PhD, but a minimum of Masters level) or equivalent professional industry experience.

**TEACHING EXPERIENCE**: A proven track-record as a lecturer in performance studies, theatre studies or an allied discipline at a tertiary level.

**CURRICULUM**: Demonstrated capacity to develop, coordinate and review teaching curriculum in the performance making discipline at a tertiary level

**ADMINISTRATION**: Demonstrated experience in working efficiently and confidently with teaching-related administration such as curriculum documentation, Canvas or similar teaching technology, budget management, marks and assessment management, or producing creative projects with young and emerging artists.
