**About the role**
Geelong is at a pivotal point with regard to growth in the region. This role will lead the Strategic Transport Planning unit for the City of Geelong and supports and the delivery of projects and strategy that responds to the sustained population growth of the region and supports implementation of our land use vision and sustainable development goals.

You will represent the Geelong council in relation to transport planning and objectives at local, regional and state level and provide input into regional transport planning activities that affect Geelong.
- Lead the team to manage preparation of transport strategy and strategic transport input to growth area plans and renewal precincts.
- Manage the Unit’s business planning requirements including development and delivery of budget bids, and business and annual work plans.
- Monitor and advise on the implications arising from changes in government policy, transport planning theory and practice and technology.
- Identify areas of policy need and actions which support the sustainable development of the city.
- Provide expert advice to a range of senior internal and external stakeholders and authorities on strategic transport planning issues.

**About you**
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Transport Planner, working at a municipal or state wide scale. You will have a strategic mindset, always looking at the bigger picture, the ability to analyse and interpret information and influence a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Extensive transport planning experience in a variety of settings relevant to the City’s planning challenges, which include significant greenfield growth and infill development.
- The ability to drive robust strategic planning where there is a high degree of future uncertainty.
- Project management experience and the ability to deliver complex projects from consultation, concept and strategy development to implementation.
- An understanding of the role of local government in transport planning, including the scope to influence other strategy and priorities of other agencies and development initiatives.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in transport planning, traffic engineering, urban planning or related field.
