**The Role**
Two roles are available.
The Social Media Hub Manager leads a dynamic team to achieve high-quality strategic communication outcomes.
You will:
- Manage open source sentiment reports, and perception and data analysis;
- Understand the geopolitical environment and be able to evaluate information from a variety of sources to assist with informing situational reporting and decisions;
- Advise on communication plans and implement optimised social media strategies;
- Identify patterns or trends in detections and communicate actionable insights.
The Media Manager leads and mentors a diverse team, with a range of experience levels, to achieve quality outcomes in set timeframes.
You will:
- Work with stakeholders to plan, develop and deliver effective communication products and ensure consistent and accurate messaging to align with communication objectives;
- Have high-level analytical skills and a demonstrated capacity to manage multiple priorities and solve problems under pressure;
- Initiate and adapt to change to meet current and emerging trends in the delivery of services.
**About our Team**
The Defence Social Media Hub, within the Defence News Bureau, is responsible for whole-of-Defence social media strategy, policy, process, training, content guidance, crisis management, reputational analysis, technical support and account consolidation; as well as data analysis and content creation, and management of key accounts.
Defence Media is responsible for working with journalists, the Department and Ministerial offices to answer media questions and pitch stories that support the work of the Australian Defence Force; and for coordinating communication support and products for major Defence events, ministerial announcements, engagements, and military operations and exercises. Both units sit within the Media and Information Disclosure (MID) Branch, which is responsible for day-to-day media operations across Defence. MID Branch brings together media and communication processes to ensure messages are clear, consistent and up to the expected standards. You will have:
- Experience in corporate communication and/or media environments;
- Strong collaborative, interpersonal and stakeholder managements skills;
- High-level analytical and problem-solving skills;
- The ability to process complex information quickly and communicate clearly.
An understanding of Defence’s priorities and the broader strategic environment is advantageous.
The Social Media Hub Manager will be tuned into current issues affecting Defence and be able to act quickly to optimise opportunities and mitigate sensitivities. They will also prioritise workflow and build individual and organisational capability.
The Defence Media Manager will have the ability to identify issues, adjust media and communications products and activities accordingly, and guide others to do the same.
In both roles, some rostered after-hours work is required, paid under overtime arrangements.
