**The Role**
A number of positions are available and involve the management, examination, manipulation and validation of various environmental geospatial data themes including metrological, oceanographic and hydrographic, to enable spatial data management, analytics and production of end user products.

As a manager, build and maintain strong relationships with spatial data providers and users to enable fit-for-purpose geospatial datasets. Managers will be accountable to lead a team, set work priorities, and manage workflow and resources.

These positions would suit an experienced Geographic Information System (GIS) user or a Hydrographic Surveyor with field experience seeking the stability of working in an office environment. Ideally proficient in working with and displaying large data sets inclusive of environmental and survey data with attention to detail and data management.

Knowledge of surveying standards and practices, including modern survey systems, survey processing practices and associated quality assurance measures would be beneficial.

Training to advance the successful applicant’s geospatial skillset and data management is encouraged and available within the Organisation. The roles will be expected to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development for themselves and their team.

All roles are office-based, working within integrated teams of APS, ADF and contracted geospatial professionals. Geospatial Manager roles will be located in Wollongong, NSW and require an NV1 security clearance. Geospatial Manager (Intelligence Team Leader) roles will be in Canberra, ACT and require a PV security clearance. The clearance assessment process will be commenced for the successful applicants, post acceptance of a job offer.

**About our Team**
The team consists of a combination of civilian and military personnel. It is a mixture of qualifications in the fields of hydrographic surveying, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), oceanography, meteorology, data management, and geospatial analysis. The teams’ main functions are to prepare geospatial data for use in the compilation of navigational and operational support products. This involves the curation, assessment, analysis, manipulation, review, and publication of geospatial data using a variety of software suites. The team’s primary responsibility is to support Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), protect the marine environment, support maritime economic activities and support Defence operations through the provision of validated geospatial products.

Possess a strong background in geospatial data analysis which may include skills in coding for streamlining data processes; understanding of data management principles, including best practice metadata; and delivery of geospatial data in a variety of formats and methods. Have experience analysing geospatial data and can use a variety of techniques to determine data quality in relation to national and international standards. Have high attention to detail and readily adapt to enterprise data management systems. Use high-level communication skills to build and sustain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the provision of the highest quality validated geospatial data in support of AGO’s functions.
- Be accountable to deliver validated geospatial data that and products that adhere to quality systems, procedures, standards and legislative requirements.
- Prioritise workload and monitor task progress against performance expectation to meet business objectives.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with team members and actively mentor less experienced team members.
- Work collaboratively with local, national and international stakeholders on matters of strategic, national and Defence interest when required.
- Develop expertise in data management and manipulation in relation to use and maintenance of geospatial databases.
- Perform complex geospatial analysis and/or production activities and tasks in support of National and Defence interests.
