Banyule City Council is hiring a **Municipal Laws Officer **to play a key role in Municipal Laws and Public Assets team.
The Planning, Building & Laws department comprises of Development Planning, BPi and Municipal Laws & Public Assets. Each team within the department manages an area of approvals, registration and statutory compliance. The Department takes a customer service driven approach to managing the development of the city, protection of amenity and support to residents, businesses and visitors.
**About the role**:
- Be part of a multi-discipline team responsible for the day-to-day administration and implementation of relevant legislation in Local Laws, amenity control and where appropriate for the betterment of the Banyule community
- Provide advice and assistance to members of the community and general public in regard to policies, permit requests and legislation governing the functions of the Municipal Laws unit
- Enforce the provisions of the Domestic Animal Act, Environmental Prevention Act and Council’s General Local Law

**Skills, experience and certificates**:
- Post-secondary training to Certificate IV in Municipal Law Enforcement, or equivalent and / or relevant experience in a Municipal Laws environment
- Prior experience working in an enforcement / compliance environment or similar with a demonstrated capacity to undertake investigations, compliance inspections and general enforcement work both reactively and proactively
- Demonstrated time management skills, including the ability to plan and organise own workload.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principals and practices of quality customer service including previous experience in effectively dealing with conflict and stressful situations
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills including previous experience in working as part of a team, on a daily basis
- Proven examples demonstrating strong aptitude in animal handling Examples of proven willingness to work with residents to achieve voluntary compliance where possible
