About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service (SES), and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.
Purpose of role
Business Platforms contributes to the development and management of technological solutions and initiatives that help solve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and business problems and governance for ICT projects, programs and strategies. The team provides system management and oversight of the human capital management and disaster management platforms. The team contributes to the formulation of strategy and policy solutions to build and retain an inclusive, diverse and capable workforce, and works closely with stakeholders and partners to ensure delivery of contemporary, best practice for both platforms. These include SAP SuccessFactors, Aurion, and Noggin.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be responsible for leading the functions of the team, whilst fostering positive working relationships and partnerships with stakeholders on difficult and complex system issues. You will also oversee the development, review and implementation of system enhancements to support operational capability.

- Knowledge and/or experience in Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements.
- Knowledge and/or experience in Software Development Life Cycle.
- Using SAP SuccessFactors and Aurion human resource management systems.
Special requirements
- The incumbent may be required to participate in out of hours On-Call' roster arrangement as well as support operational duties during emergencies and disasters which may also require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours and possible intra-state deployment.
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Undertake management activities including operational and strategic planning, workflow, performance and quality management to ensure business processes and procedures meet organisational requirements.
- Coordinate the transition of releases, enhancements, system changes and maintenance, including training delivery and communication updates on key initiatives for module owners and users across the organisation.
- Manage system technical documentation and Service Design, including test implementation to ensure business processes and procedures maintain currency, and system enhancements meet the solution, in line with departmental standards and policies.
- Provide high level advice, reporting and recommendations on business systems improvement and implementation practices, including the identification of impacts on operational requirements.
- Oversee the performance of external support vendors to ensure that contractual agreements are being met, in line with agreed business service level agreements and systems remain fit for purpose.
- Manage complex projects and represent QFES on various forums with a view to promoting innovation, performance improvement and service delivery enhancements are delivered within agreed timeframes.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to contribute to the development and ongoing improvement initiatives and deliver innovative solutions.
- Manage the function and team, fostering positive teamwork, and utilisation of human, financial and other resources and assist in the ongoing development of staff through performance, planning, and review.
