The Head of Programs and Site Activations leads the creation and management of programs, events and activities that support the Museum’s strategic priorities and showcase our stories, objects, and precinct.

Under the leadership of Assistant Director Storytelling and Engagement, and in collaboration with Leadership Team colleagues, this role is responsible for ensuring a vibrant and activated site that augments the Museum’s exhibition and digital programs. In this position you will have oversight of the Volunteer, Education and Public Programs sections; and leadership of a team that delivers these activities and functions.

**High level overview of responsibilities**:

- Creating a yearlong program of activations, programs and events that showcase the museum as a must visit destination.
- Determining the strategic direction and development of programs that match the Museum’s ambitions for a high quality and revenue-generating offer for a broad range of audiences.
- Leading and identifying innovative ideas, anticipating the impact on the immediate team and the wider Museum.
- Ensuring the Museum’s participation in major events and festivals in a way that champions Museum objects, narratives, vessels, and precinct.
- Representing the Museum and communicating the strategic vision to enhance the Museum’s position in the marketplace.
- Leading and guiding the Museum Education program to ensure the prominence of Museum content in classrooms across the country.
- Championing diversity and ensure that engagement and education programs and activities reach a broad audience so that a wide range of perspectives and voices are represented.
- Providing innovative leadership to the Museum’s Volunteer program to ensure the quality and consistency of Volunteer interactions within the museum precinct.
- Leading and managing the performance and development of staff across the Education, Public Programs and Volunteer teams.
- Managing resources and effective use of budgets across the Education, Public Programs and Volunteer teams.
- Leading, executing and overseeing partnerships with Government, Non-Government and Private sector organisations and create collaborative programs that achieve the objective of activating our site and bringing visitors and revenue to the museum.

**Selection Criteria**:

- Tertiary qualifications in the fields of education, engagement and visitor experience, and/or demonstrated relevant equivalent professional experience and training.
- Significant experience and understanding of public program development and management including processes, frameworks and governance practices and engaging diverse audiences with Museum themes, disciplines, and collections.
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to work with and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Senior leadership experience in managing diverse and complex teams.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing business development plans for programs in a government or community-based organisation, including developing and managing complex budgets across multiple teams.
- Understanding of role and significance of a national museum.
- Experience in fundraising and successful grant writing.
