**Who are we**:
With the enactment of the Water Act 2007 (Cth), the Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.

For the first time in the Basin's history, one Basin-wide institution is responsible for planning the Basin's water resources, with all planning decisions made in the interest of the Basin as a whole.

Our most important work is to:

- prepare, implement and review an integrated plan for the sustainable use of the Basin's water resources
- operate the River Murray system and efficiently deliver water to users on behalf of partner governments
- measure, monitor and record the quality and quantity of the Basin's water resources
- supporting, encourage and conduct research and investigations about the Basin's water resources and dependent ecosystems
- advise the Australian Government Minister responsible for water on the accreditation of state water resource plans
- provide water rights information to facilitate water trading across the Basin
- engage and educate the Australian community about the Basin's water resources.

**Who are we looking for**:
The
**Assistant Director** will:

- Support partner governments undertaking improvements and amendments to Schedule D to the Murray-Darling Basin Agreement
- Manage projects and consultancies on specific reviews either on behalf of the partner governments or to meet internal MDBA requirements
- Provide practical support, influence, and response to a wide range of internal and external review/reform activities affecting the current and future operations of water markets in the River Murray system. These include joint government outcomes from the Water Market Reform Roadmap process, Climate Change adaptation, activities of the Inspector General of Water Compliance and future reviews of the Basin Plan and Water Act
- Work closely with and influence internal and external partners to improve water trade in a consensus environment.
- Prepare and present high-level papers and advice for the Ministerial Council, Basin Officials Committee, River Murray Operations Committee, the Authority and other relevant internal and external groups as appropriate
- Assist the portfolio as required to meet its operational obligations under the Murray-Darling Basin Agreement e.g. in supporting flood or drought operations
