Position Description
Boarding House Supervisor
POSITION TITLE Boarding House Supervisor
CLASSIFICATION Grade 2 SSO
TIME Boarding Supervisors are required to carry out supervision
duties as determined by the duty roster of the Boarding House,
which varies according to House staffing arrangements. The
Boarding House operates during school term time weeks only
and a combination of week day, after hours and weekend work,
including overnight will be required.
REPORTING/WORKING
RELATIONSHIP
All staff report to the Principal. The Boarding House Supervisor
reports through the Head of Boarding.
Key Responsibilities
- The Boarding House Supervisor has the responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of the girls in our
- Boarding House. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities while overseeing the effective
- operation of the Boarding House during a variety of weekday, weekend, and overnight shifts. The
- supervisor provides support and assistance to boarding students in our safe, caring, positive and
- supportive environment.Essential Knowledge and Experience- A compassionate and thorough understanding of adolescent girls and the challenges they may face
- living away from home.- The ability to relate effectively with our boarders.
- An understanding of and ability to relate to students from a wide range of cultural and
- geographical backgrounds.- Professional experience in working with groups of young people.
- A working knowledge of the legal requirements of working with students in a school environment
(Duty of Care), in addition to acquiring the relevant accreditation for training in Responding to
Abuse and Neglect, First Aid and a Working with Children Check.
- Proven experience in being able to work independently, manage tasks within a set time frame,
problem solve and communicate effectively.
- Ability to work as part of a team to ensure consistency and willingness to contribute to the
supportive and positive culture in our Boarding House.

- An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and maintaining this through verbal and
written communications.
- Competent IT skills and the ability to expand on this knowledge when required.

- The ability to empathise with and support young people who are living away from home.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to relate to others in a respectful and
- diplomatic fashion.- The ability to remain calm when dealing with complex situations.
- Flexibility to undertake a variety of shifts both during the day and overnight.
- Demonstrated experience being part of a team, and a commitment to upholding the high standard
- of care offered to Walford Boarders.- The ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of students, taking into account the
- individual needs of each student.Additional Information
- At all times a Boarding Supervisor is required to:
- Maintain a caring, friendly, and patient approach.
- Maintain and promote a positive attitude toward the students, boarding house community and the
- Walford community in general.- Encourage and maintain trust with students.
- Encourage and maintain communication with students.
- Respect individuality within the Boarding House in line with the relevant policies, procedures, and
- guidelines.- Encourage students to develop autonomy, life skills and be responsible for their own behaviour.
- Follow Boarding House/School routines, procedures, and policies.
- Attend professional development activities as required by the school.
- Other duties as required.
Essential Qualifications- Senior First Aid Certificate (with current CPR)
- Current Working with Children Check
- Responding to Abuse and Neglect Training Certificate (Fundamentals and Masterclass)
- Protective Practices for education and care staff and volunteers training
- Disability Standards for Education for senior secondary training
Desirable Qualifications- Formal qualifications in Teaching, Recreation Planning, Nursing, Student Residential Care, OSHC or
- similar profession suited to a school Boarding House environment.- ABSA Certificate in Duty of Care
