This position plays a key role in the coordination and provision of support to the regional Koorie Education workforce and multi-disciplinary Area teams within the Region. The occupant of the position will have a high level understanding of the current education and early childhood development reform agenda, particularly as it relates to Koorie children, young people and the broader Koorie community. The Koorie Education Coordinator will be an active member of the multidisciplinary Area Service Support Team and is required to develop strong relationships with the regional Manager, Koorie Education; schools, early years' service providers, central and local consultative groups, other community and government agencies and stakeholders.

**The Koorie Education Coordinator (KEC) for the Southern Melbourne Area leads a team of 5 Koorie Engagement Support Officers who work with Koorie families, local Aboriginal organisations, kindergarten educators and providers, government schools P-12, and with pathway providers such as TAFE colleges and universities to ensure all Koorie children can complete Year 12 and/or move into a positive post-school pathway. The Southern Melbourne Area is a growth area, which includes a growing local Aboriginal community in the local government areas of City of Greater Dandenong, City of Casey, and Cardinia Shire. The Department of Education and Training (DET) is in the seventh year of implementing the Marrung Education Strategy 2016-2026, which seeks to ensure all education services and government schools are culturally inclusive of Aboriginal children and their families, and the wellbeing and academic achievement of Koorie students is supported by all levels of DET. This means that the Koorie Education Coordinator is expected to use a multidisciplinary approach to address the barriers faced by aboriginal children and families in the local area and to lead and manage the KESO team to support this work. Our philosophy is that Marrung is everyone's responsibility in DET, and the Koorie Education Workforce are valued members of the DET workforce who support DET to achieve improved educational outcomes for Aboriginal children.**
