**The opportunity**
A new position has become available to provide the practical experience for an aspiring First Nations board director. GWW is committed to exploring what you need to be a board director and will provide a pathway for future First Nations representation on boards in the water community. If you are curious about the world of water, large scale infrastructure programs, servicing the fastest growing urban growth corridor in Australia then this role could be for you.
You will develop skills in the areas of public sector board governance including strategic planning, managing risk, audit, and oversight of the corporation's operations. You will be given the appropriate support, development, training, and mentorship to be an active participant and share your insights and develop your future board career.
A commitment of attending monthly board meetings per year in the Footscray or Sunbury office plus Board Committee meetings, ad hoc site meetings, development opportunities and additional hours to read and contribute to board papers will be required for a 15-month term. You will be compensated with $33,040.30 excluding super per annum. This is an identified First Nations position.
**Responsibilities**- Commitment to pro-actively develop your board career pathway.- Actively participate in Board meetings and inform the Board’s consideration of a wide range of matters related to Greater Western Water (without voting rights) including:
- Strategic direction- Organisational culture- Workplace safety- Operational and financial performance- Environmental, economic, social, and cultural contribution- Be prepared to share independent perspectives at Board meetings as it relates to cultural awareness, cultural safety, community engagement, Aboriginal and Traditional Owner networks and GWW’s reconciliation plan.
**Skills & Experience**- No previous board experience required - this is a development opportunity and we’re committed to supporting your development.- Connection to communities and people in the Greater Western Water service area.- Demonstrated expertise supporting cultural awareness and safety in a team environment.- Curiosity about sustainable water management and services in the Greater Western Water service area.- Interest in developing knowledge and skills in Board governance within the water industry and the broader public sector and a demonstrated capacity to develop Board readiness.-
- Interest in working in the water industry, land management, construction or essential services.
