ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

The Salvation Army Aged Care’s purpose is to promote a unique experience of choice, lifestyle and belonging for all people as they age. At times, our aged care centres accommodate NDIS participants who do not have family members or other trusted contacts to advocate for their care needs. The role of the Independent Person is to help them with their behaviour support plan and the proposed use of restraint and seclusion during reviews of their NDIS behaviour support plan.

The support of the NDIS Independent Person is a requirement that is unique to the Victorian Authorisation Process. This role is particularly ideal for those passionate about protecting the rights of the most vulnerable in our community. For this reason, it is a particularly special, unique, and rewarding position located primarily at our facility, James Barker House, in Footscray, Melbourne.
