- Key responsibilities
- Bring your ‘pride of place’ and attention to detail to general cleaning activities, providing a welcoming experience for clients, visitors and co-workers.
- Using well-honed organisational skills, re-stock cleaning supplies and consumables.
- Manage rubbish removal by emptying bins and ensuring recycling is ready for collection.
- Maintain a routine for more occasional ‘deeper cleaning’ tasks, instructing co-workers on how to prepare and assist with access (eg remove items from desks, floor area or windows).
- Qualifications and skills (desired/required)
- Experience in cleaning highly regarded, or a keen desire to learn
- A good understanding of the safe and effective use of cleaning products and equipment
- Good communication skills
- Capabilities and personal attributes

Background checks play an important part in our commitment to being a safe organisation. Below is what is required for this role.
- There may be times where this role has potential contact with children, therefore may require a Working with Children Check/Working with Vulnerable People Check
- As this role involves access to equipment and property,sometimes after office/centre hours, it may require a Police Check

- Training Requirements

One of the many ways we care for people is by ensuring our workers are well equipped with the necessary knowledge to complete their role safely.

To successfully undertake this role, the following training is required(2)
- Category A training: Foundational training which includes an introduction to The Salvation Army, code of conduct training, work-safe and child-safe practices.
- Or Category B training (if required for site): Above, plus extended child-safe training.
- Work Health and Safety (WHS) considerations

We take Work Health Safety and well-being seriously at The Salvation Army. We want to ensure volunteers are fully informed and aware of key safety considerations. For this role, key considerations include (but not limited to
- As this role requires long periods of standing and potentially handling heavy equipment, Cleaning Team Members will be required to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and take regular breaks.
- Due to the use of cleaning chemicals, labels must be read and understood, and appropriate personal protective equipment must worn at all times.
- This role requires up to date COVID vaccination.

Other WHS considerations will be covered during the induction.
- Development opportunities with this role

This role will give volunteers an opportunity to develop skills and build experience in cleaning and appropriate use of cleaning products, along with working alongside a team to create an aesthetically pleasing environment. More broadly, volunteers in this role will have access to further training opportunities and exposure to the workings of a large not-for-profit organisation.
