**About the role**

Based in our harbourside offices at Redleaf Beach in Double Bay, we are offering an opportunity to take part in the transformation of our refreshed organisation, which is focused on growing, adapting and improving as we embark on our journey to create a culture of excellence.

We are looking for an inspirational leader for the role of Manager Legal, Compliance & Enforcement. This is a key leadership position in the Planning & Place Division. The Division is committed to supporting Council to meet the changing needs of our vibrant community, and which also encompasses Strategic Planning and Place, Development Assessment and Regulatory Control.

Some of your key accountabilities will be to:

- Lead and manage the Legal, Compliance and Enforcement Unit across specialisations of Building and Land Use Compliance, Building Certification, Fire Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, and Food Safety.
- Monitor Councils compliance functions and performance to ensure service requests are investigated, reported and actioned within Council’s prescribed service standards and delegations.
- Develop legal strategies and protocols for managing legal matters that arise in relation to compliance and enforcement, as well as the day to day management of legal matters and the Department’s legal list.

**About you**

You will be an energetic leader driven by a desire to provide strong legal, compliance and enforcement services to Council and the community, with a view to protecting and where possible, enhancing the amenity of the entire Woollahra LGA.

You will ensure that our compliance and enforcement processes reflect best practice and you will endeavour to continuously improve the way we deliver these services.

You will have significant experience in areas relevant to compliance and enforcement, which includes services such as Building and Land Use compliance, Building Certification, Fire Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, and Food Safety.

You will be a high achiever with:

- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health, Building Surveying or related fields and relevant building certification accreditation.
- Strong legal experience in regulatory, compliance and commercial matters.
- Demonstrated knowledge & understanding of relevant NSW environmental, health and building law and extensive experience in providing legal, regulatory, and commercial advice in relation to planning and environment issues.
- Experience in the development of legal strategies & protocols.
- Extensive investigative experience preferably across complex regulatory environments.
- Capacity to review and then implement business process improvements with a strong focus on strategic outcomes.
- Strong people leadership skills and demonstrated experience in taking an active interest in the development of your people.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills supported by highly developed political awareness.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing high level of customer experience with the ability to set strategic direction, plan and set priorities and manage a variety of concurrent tasks.
- Current drivers licence.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Relevant legal qualifications and admission to the Supreme Court of NSW to practice as a solicitor.
- Experience in providing legal advice to senior management across a broad range of law including local government, planning, heritage conservation, and environmental law.
