**About the Opportunity**

We are seeking a passionate Principal Ecologist who is looking to join a high-performing national team of consultant ecologists. This is a unique opportunity is preferably based in Canberra; however we will also consider other relevant regional locations in Southern NSW.

As a Principal Ecologist, you will identify, win, lead, manage and complete a wide range of ecological projects including taking ownership of all aspects of project delivery to provide a fully integrated outcome in a manner that maintains and enhances Umwelt’s reputation.

The types of projects you will be leading and providing specialist input into include impact assessments, constraints assessments, due diligence assessments, field surveys and monitoring, EPBC referrals, ecological management plans, and offset site assessments. You will also be able to drive positive ecological outcomes and deliver solutions to complex environmental problems for our clients through the provision of strategic advice.

The role will also have a business development function leveraging from Umwelt’s strong ecology reputation, and from your existing relationships and ability to form strong and lasting relationships with clients.

**About you**

We are looking for a passionate Principal Ecologist that wants a unique opportunity to grow and develop their career. This role will see you working with a highly experienced and dynamic national ecology team engaged on a diverse suite of projects across multiple industry sectors. You will have:

- A degree/post graduate qualification in environmental science, botany, zoology, environmental science (or similar)
- 10+ years of experience as an Ecologist, preferably with demonstrated ACT/NSW/East Coast experience
- BAM accredited assessor or with extensive experience in BAM and/or other biometric data capture and analysis (or capacity to achieve BAM accreditation)
- Demonstrated experience in planning and management of ecological surveys for large scale development or biodiversity offsetting projects
- Considerable consulting experience and/or a combination of consulting and client/regulator side ecology experience
- Project management, business development and client relationship management skills
- An ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including but not limited to clients, government consent authorities/agencies, local Councils, and members of the community
- Willingness to play a key role in the development and implementation of the growth strategy for the ecology workstream in ACT
- Ability to travel within ACT, NSW and nationally as appropriate and conduct field work where required
- A high level of motivation and self-direction
- Current Australian driver’s license
