The Communications Coordinator works within the Marketing and Communications team, reporting to the Strategic Communications Manager.

Defence SA is a key economic development agency within the South Australian Government focused on defence industry development. Defence SA includes the South Australian Space Industry Centre, Veterans SA and the Defence Innovation Partnership.

Collectively, the agency advocates and supports the defence and space industries and veterans within South Australia.

**Role Purpose/Context**:
The Communications Coordinator will have a primary responsibility for the planning and delivery of communication activities across media, web, print, social media and marketing collateral for the Veterans SA portfolio and will also contribute to communications activities for Defence SA, the South Australian Space Industry Centre and Defence Innovation Partnership.

**Key selection criteria**:

- Significant experience as a working journalist or as a communications/media professional.
- Significant experience in writing speeches for senior executives.
- Understanding of the media, what makes news and how to write effectively for the media.
- Significant experience in writing content for web, print, and social media.
- Significant experience in developing, implementing and evaluating effective communication plans.
- Highly developed written communication skills that enable effective and appropriate communication with a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to pro-actively identify and engage with required stakeholders to deliver positive communications outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with cultural sensitivity front of mind.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently under very broad direction to develop and implement innovative solutions to complex issues Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to develop and accomplish shared goals by taking an active role in contributing ideas, knowledge and expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise tact, tolerance, and humour in team interactions to promote effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities and allocate time and resources accordingly to manage multiple, concurrent projects within deadlines.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
- Ability to demonstrate resilience when faced with uncertainty or ambiguity.

**Special Conditions**
- This is a contract / term vacancy up to 24 months.
- The incumbent is required to enter into a performance agreement.
- Work outside of normal hours will be required and the position may require interstate travel involving overnight absences.

**Essential Qualifications**

Appropriate tertiary qualifications in communications or appropriate workplace experience.
