**Forestry plays an important role in broader forest and timber industry policy development and advice in the Queensland context; and provides oversight of the plantation licence with the Queensland Government.
Core business for Forestry is to administer the sale and marketing of State-owned native forest timber, quarry material, and other forest products as well as other key activities such as apiary site management on State Forests.
Forestry is committed to ensuring its role in native forest and quarry sale administration and marketing is undertaken in a legal, environmentally responsible, professional and safe manner that complies with relevant legislation, codes of practice and authorities. In relation to native forest management, DAF Forestry is certified to the Australian Standard for Sustainable Forest Management AS4708-2013, which serves as a basis for continual improvement against economic, environmental, social and cultural criteria.
More specifically about the role:
At Forestry you will be working with a group of passionate people who are committed to making a positive impact within the forest and timber industry. As a relatively small business unit, you will have the opportunity to work directly with senior management and be given on-the-job support with coaching and development.
Forest and timber policy in Queensland is topical and complex.
As one of our Principal Policy Officers, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a small team on a range of diverse programs and activities including:
- Supporting the development of the landmark Queensland Timber Action Plan which will provide a future direction for the forest and timber industry in Queensland.
- Designing and implementing a range of complex policy initiatives that will support sustainable future timber supply in Queensland.
- Preparing and reviewing department and whole of government policy papers, submissions, reports and briefing notes on Queensland forest and timber policy including within the Commonwealth context.
- Working collaboratively with stakeholders to solve complex matters and identify new opportunities associated with the State's plantation licence.
Just imagine what you could achieve with us. #passionandpurpose
