**LEGAL ADVISOR**

Our client is currently looking for a
**Legal Advisor** on a full-time basis working
**38 hours per week**,
**approximately 3 months with possible extension,** and we are looking for
**an immediate start.**

**Role Purpose**:
To protect the interests of the Client by providing timely and pragmatic legal advice and support to the organization.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Provide legal advice on complex areas of law relevant to local government, ensuring the Client’s legal risks are effectively managed and interests are protected and advanced.
- Coordinate drafting and review of the Client’s Local Laws and manage associated Parliamentary processes.
- Represent the Client in legal disputes as required, including negotiation and mediation as well as representation at court and tribunals, ensuring that the Client’s interests are protected.
- Manage relationships with external legal providers, ensuring that those services are appropriately delivered to the Client in a cost effective and timely manner. This includes drafting of legal briefs.
- Provide advice and assistance with the Client’s legislative and contractual compliance including delivery of training and education program.
- Draft and review Council Policies and Procedures as required.
- Draft and review contracts and tender documentation as required. Provide advice and support to the Procurement function as required.
- Draft and review leases, licenses and other agreements.
- Provide specialist information, direction, guidance, advice and support to management and staff on governance issues to ensure appropriate conditions are included in lease, tender and procurement contracts, and contracts are compliant with statutory requirements.
- Conduct internal reviews of decisions made under freedom of information legislation.
- Undertake other duties within the scope and level of this position as directed by the Manager Governance Strategy & Risk.

**Requirements of the Job**:

- Possession of a qualification in law and a current Practicing Certificate from the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia.
- Recent experience in the provision of legal advice in the areas of contract, planning and environmental law.
- Demonstrated recent experience in drafting and negotiating contracts and leases.
- Highly developed research and written communication skills, including the ability to write clear and concise complex letters and reports.
- Can provide National Police clearance dated within the last (12) twelve months.
- Highly developed interpersonal, conflict resolution, negotiation, and facilitation skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people and groups and to positively influence others to achieve results to ensure delivery of a high level of customer service.
- Highly developed organizational and administrative skills with proven ability to effectively priorities multiple projects and coordinate conflicting priorities to meet strict deadlines and organizational objectives and complete tasks with a high level of accuracy.
- Proven ability to handle political, confidential, and sensitive matters appropriately.
- Previous experience in undertaking continuous improvement activities, including exposure to the Australian Business Excellence Framework, Quality Assurance, ISO Standards, process improvement and auditing activities.
