**About the Team**
The Investigations team is responsible for the conduct of ‘no-blame’ safety investigations across rail, bus and ferry transport modes to understand why incidents happen, to identify safety factors and to make recommendations or highlight actions that transport operators, regulators and government can take to improve safety and prevent reoccurrence.
OTSI investigators work in a team, learning new skills, sharing their knowledge with other SME’s from across the various Transport modes. Maintaining our independence and conducting impartial investigations are essential to deliver relevant, timely and accurate investigation reports that lead to safety improvement. The team investigates confidential safety reports from transport workers and a manages 24/7 duty phone for the reporting of and responding to urgent matters.
**The opportunity**
Right now, we have an exciting opportunity to be part of our Office of Transport Safety Investigations Team. While the role is multi-modal, prior bus industry or heavy vehicle experience will be favourably regarded.
Our approach to safety investigations will see you conduct investigations (individually and in collaboration with your team) across Bus, Ferry and Rail incidents throughout NSW. You will start your journey focused on Bus (Heavy Vehicle) investigations before broadening your knowledge in other transport modes.
In addition to conducting independent investigations, our Transport Safety Investigators manage the Confidential Safety Information Reporting Scheme (CSIRS) for transport workers wishing to report a safety concern and the 24/7 Duty Officer line for urgent matters.
OTSI has a collaboration agreement with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) which provides our investigators with the opportunity to gain a Graduate Certificate of Transport Safety Investigations through the RMIT.

**About you**
Relevant qualifications and experience in safety sciences, risk management, safety management systems, engineering/trade, forensics and/or human factors are essential.
What is important to us is a self-starter with good research skills, attention to detail, sound communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to produce timely and comprehensive reports that identify safety lessons and actions that will improve transport safety.
You will be adaptive, resilient and inquisitive with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
**Essential Requirements**
- Relevant qualifications and/or experience in engineering/trade, forensics, safety sciences, risk management, safety management systems and/or human factors.
- Ability to undertake and lead field investigations.
- Proven ability to undertake research, synthesize information and conduct complex analysis
- Demonstrated high level writing skills and an ability to clearly communicate complex concepts
- Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills
- You must hold a current Driver’s license and be flexible to be rostered on call, and travel at short notice across the State to attend accident/incident sites.
Previous experience in investigations in transport, work health and safety, heavy vehicle operations or similar would be highly regarded.

**Salary and Benefits**
The salary for this position is Transport Grade 8 ($123,470 - $138,284) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
