**The role**

We are looking for an enthusiastic Tourism Officer to engage with and meet the requirements of customers and tourists at Singleton's Visitor Information Centre.

With tertiary qualifications in Tourism, or the equivalent substantial demonstrated experience in the tourism industry, you will be the point of contact for local tourism operators, ensuring the Visitor Information Centre has all of the latest and most up-to-date information on all local tourism activities. You will not only support our customers and tourists by providing comprehensive information and expert advice on local tourism products and services, you will also support Council through data to ensure we are continuously improving and providing the best customer experience.

Key responsbilities include:

- Delivery of day-to-day operations of the Singleton Visitor Information Centre including assisting with visitor inquiries and requests for information.
- Supporting the Coordinator Arts and Culture in the delivery of the Arts & Culture Centre programs.
- Maintaining the Visitor Information Centre’s displays and information to ensure visitors have access to all local tourism information and Arts & Culture Centre exhibitions.
- Collection and collation of statistics and monthly reporting for continuous improvement.
- Managing sales and commissions for the Visitor Information Centre and Arts & Culture Centre.
- Undertake familiarisation tours with the Customer Service Team of all accommodation and tourism businesses in Singleton and have sound knowledge of what each has to offer.
- Keep information on social media platforms up-to-date, interesting and informative, and maintain an up-to-date calendar of events, including regular “What’s On” promotions.
- Work with the Coordinator Customer Service on promotional opportunities and to achieve sales and budget targets.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with local tourism industry businesses and bodies.
- Research and identify new tourism products and services to enhance existing Visitor Centre services.
- Ensure delivery of allocated Tourism Improvement Project actions.
- Support the Customer Service Team as required, acting as a first point of contact for customers enquiries, transactions and requests.

To be successful in this role you must have:

- Tertiary qualifications in Tourism, or equivalent substantial experience in the tourism industry
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of the tourism industry
- Proven record of time management, setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and working independently within established guidelines
- A commitment to providing excellent customer service

Previous experience in Local Government or an understanding of the business, geographical and tourism attributes of the Singleton Local Government Area would be an advantage.

This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis working 35 hours per week to provide coverage for lunch breaks.

Remuneration for the position is based on Grade 7 of the salary system which equates to a base salary between $59,132 to $66,515 based on the hours of work plus superannuation.
