**Role Summary**

As part of our Global Capital Markets business, this new position is an exciting opportunity to join the growing Northern Trust Securities team in Sydney. As an **Equity Trader**, you will perform a critical function executing single stock and portfolio trades across Asia Pacific Equity markets. This is a unique role offering exposure to internal partners including Sales Trading, Transition Management and Operations teams globally as well as our Institutional clients and exchange participant brokers.

This role reports to Head of Trading, APAC.

**What you will do**
- Receive, confirm and understand instructions for Single Stock and Basket level client orders.
- Execute Equities orders across 18 Asia Pacific markets on behalf of our domestic and global Institutional clients via DMA, Algorithmic, Dark Pool, Cash desk, Portfolio desk channels.
- Follow Best Execution principals and strategies to minimize the cost of trade implementation.
- Liaise closely with Internal partners including Traders, Sales Traders and Operations teams globally.
- Assist the Sales Trading team with news flow, market wraps and communicating directly with clients regarding intraday updates and order status.
- Understand the market structure of each market we trade in detail.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulatory rules and responsibilities.
- Become familiar with the systems we use and contribute ideas as we evolve and strive for better process and efficiency.
- Always maintain a high level of attention to detail and accuracy with a constant focus on managing risk.
- Use Trade Cost Analysis pre-trade, intra-day and post trade to record, measure and review trading performance.

**About You**
- Proven experience in a similar Equity Trading role
- A degree in Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or similar
- Electronic trading experience using Algorithms and an Execution Management System (EMS)
- Strong verbal and written communications skills, attention to detail and diligence
- The ability to effectively prioritise day to day objectives, problem solve, be flexible and adaptable in an environment where every day can be different.

**Good to have**:

- An understanding of Asia Pacific Equity market structure including both trading and settlement processes
- Technological proficiency, some coding knowledge an advantage
