**About the role**:
We are currently looking to speak to Sustainability & Environment Manager's to join our national rail business unit. The role will report into our General Manager (Health, Sustainability, Climate & Rail Safety) and will drive sustainable & environmental outcomes and ensure the Rail & Transport business unit and projects create value for John Holland, our customers and communities. The role will be based in either Sydney or Melbourne.

**Key accountabilities**:

- Drive a culture of contemporary thinking and best practice across the Rail & Transport BU to address the needs of our customers and communities
- Coordinate and provide day to day specialist sustainability & environmental support to internal stakeholders, including Group and project Environment teams.
- Identification and effective management of sustainability & environmental risks
- Establish, monitor and report on key sustainability & environmental performance objectives and standards for managing project sustainability & environmental risks.
- Increase the Rail & Transport BU and projects’ understanding of sustainability and environment through education programs that are aligned with John Holland Group’s Sustainability, Climate and Environmental Strategy
- Promote the understanding of risks and opportunities related to sustainability & environment across the Rail & Transport BU and projects, ensuring well balanced long-term decision making is consistently applied
- Where possible ensure Rail & Transport and our projects adopt John Holland systems, strategies, policies, objectives and targets from concept planning through to design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance to meet customer requirements and help increase profit and market share
- Support the tender review process and provide technical input to EOI, RFPs and tenders, demonstrating a strong understanding of sustainability & environmental goals, rating schemes and other related stakeholder requirements.
- Ensure the necessary support (including resources of suitable levels of competence) is available for the effective implementation of John Holland’s sustainability & environmental requirements across the Rail & Transport and on projects
- Represent and advocate sustainable and environmental outcomes within the industry on behalf of the Rail & Transport team.
- Ensure Rail & Transport Business unit and it’s projects are prepared for and can adequately respond to sustainability events and emergencies
- Monitor, measure and evaluate the Rail & Transport BU sustainability and environmental performance in order to support the continuous improvement of John Holland’s systems and practice
- Help develop the sustainability and environmental capability within the Rail & Transport BU
- Mentor and support the development of project sustainability and environmental professionals
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant legal, regulatory and company environmental requirements, ensuring management and staff are kept informed of any relevant changes to project requirements

**What we are looking for**:
**You will have**:

- Bachelor of Engineering, Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability or other associated disciplines
- Construction sustainability management
- Understanding of sustainability rating schemes and standards
- Knowledge of environmental statues and legislation
- Knowledge of tender requirements, project planning, development, implementation and review.
- Ability to lead high level investigations involving multiple internal and external parties.
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative environmental risk assessment and development of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills (both external and internal)
