Leading Hand Open Space Maintenance

**Remuneration**_:_**_ _Band 4 salary from $77,764.92 per annum plus superannuation and a fortnightly RDO

**Location**: Hoppers Crossing based

**About the role**

As a Leading Hand in our Open Space department, you will supervise the Open Space Maintenance Team’s resources, ensuring the workforce carries out allocated tasks effectively and efficiently.

You will schedule open space maintenance activities across the municipality in coordination with other teams whose actions significantly impact on maintenance activities and tasks.

As a team, your goal is to actively work towards improving and maintaining the quality of assets, gardens, park and sporting fields within available resources and budget.

**What your day will look like**
- Monitoring the productivity and quality of work within the team
- Contributing to the development of annual plans and budgets
- Providing input into the development of policies, procedures and standards to ensure the team’s compliance with Best Practice and productivity levels
- Training employees in the use of equipment and techniques, encouraging their use of initiative and the development of their skills and abilities
- Performing manual duties, as required
- Operating and monitoring maintenance requirements for plant, tools and equipment, including fuel, lubrication and fluid levels encouraging staff responsibility for plant and equipment in their use and care
- Responding to customer service requests and other requests for maintenance works

**What you will bring**
- Qualifications in Turf Management, Horticulture or related discipline to at least Certificate 3 level (desirable)
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff and contractors
- Sound verbal and written skills, including the ability to draft reports, plans and correspondence, as well as the implementation and maintenance of various databases
- Experience in the use and maintenance of mowing plant and equipment (e.g. ride on, hand mowers and/or tractor driven mowing equipment)
- A current Victorian Drivers licence including Truck licence (MR or HR)
- First Aid Level 2 (highly desirable)
- Agricultural Chemical User’s Permit (desirable)
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and GIS
