Acacia Prison has several opportunities for trainee Custodial Officers to commence paid full-time training. Acacia has a diverse Custodial Officer workforce; as such, individuals from all working backgrounds are encouraged to apply. To be successful, you will need to demonstrate physical fitness and the ability to remain calm under pressure. In addition, it is important that applicants are compassionate, motivated and have a strong desire to help prisoners make their time in custody one that is constructive.

Located approximately 60 km east of Perth (Western Australia), Acacia Prison is a medium security facility operated by Serco. Acacia is Australia’s largest prison, and we are responsible for the management of 1470 male prisoners. Serco takes pride in facilitating great prisoner rehabilitation programs, its safety record, service delivery to our customers and its pro-social learning environment.

You will demonstrate responsible behaviour as role models and always interact with colleagues and prisoners with courtesy and respect. You will need to be committed to the prisoner rehabilitation process and have a passion for helping prisoners’ transition into individuals able to contribute positively to the community. Your approach to this role has the potential to change and influence lives, and so highly developed social and communication skills are essential requisites for this role. Training will commence upon receipt of appropriate clearances

Key Responsibilities
Work with all members of the prison to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors
Manage a caseload of prisoners in accordance with the requirements of offender management practices
Conduct patrols, searches and security-related activities ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures
Maintain high quality documentation in relation to case files, prisoner assessments, and report preparation
Communicate with, and give directions to, prisoners in a respectful and motivational manner, respond to prisoner queries and provide pro-active assistance and guidance as required
Pro-actively build and maintain positive relationships with peers, managers and stakeholders both within and external to Acacia Prison
Contribute to a safe and healthy working environment, consistent with Workplace Health & Safety policy, procedures and legislation

**Employment Details**:
Comprehensive, paid 12-week training course (exclusive of public holidays)
Competitive Full time salary
Upon successful completion of the training course, you must be available to work up to 12 hours on shift, including nights, weekends, and public holidays
