Parks Australia is seeking a highly motivated leader with protected area management experience who is able to work effectively with Traditional Owners to be the next Park Manager for Booderee National Park. **Who we are**
The Director of National Parks is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens and 60 Australian Marine Parks established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department) that supports the Director. We work to protect and showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future.

Booderee National Park, with its coastal habitats is one of three national parks, leased by their Aboriginal owners to the Director of National Parks, and jointly managed by Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. In addition to ongoing management of the park’s natural and cultural heritage, this branch also looks after the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and is in negotiation with Land Councils to review and update the lease arrangements for the three jointly managed parks leased to the Director.

Booderee is Aboriginal land. Using a mix of traditional knowledge and modern science Parks Australia works hand in hand with the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community to manage Booderee. Crystal-clear waters meet beautiful white sand beaches, while high cliffs overlook the majestic Pacific Ocean. Booderee National Park features a rich Indigenous culture, extraordinary native flora and fauna and its own botanical gardens.

**The Job**
The duties of the role include:

- providing leadership and direction in the management of Booderee National Park (Booderee) and Booderee Botanic Gardens consistent with the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and the lease obligations of the Director of National Parks
- leading and managing a large, operational cross-cultural workforce with a strong focus on coaching and mentoring the leadership team, building workforce capability, and maintaining a safe environment for staff and visitors
- in conjunction with Traditional Owners through the Board of Management, the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Council, and the Director of National Parks, ensuring the effective implementation of the Booderee Plan of Management and related strategies and work programs
- in a cross-cultural context: deliver key environmental, cultural and visitor programs; appropriately allocate resources; lead the implementation and monitoring of the Booderee Lease, service deeds and other key agreements; and maintain and update local policies and procedures
- establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders including the Booderee Joint Board of Management, the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community and Council the tourism industry, the scientific community and Commonwealth, state and territory agencies
- represent the Department and Parks Australia at the local and regional level and participate in negotiations with government and non-government agencies, Indigenous representative organisations, the tourism in
