**Who we are**
Australia’s natural and cultural heritage is unique. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future.
Booderee National Park, with its coastal habitats is one of three national parks, leased by their Aboriginal owners to the Director of National Parks, and jointly managed by Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. In addition to ongoing management of the park’s natural and cultural heritage, this branch also looks after Parks Australia’s corporate services from the office in Canberra including, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Customer Experience and Destination Planning. Beyond the spinifex sand plains of arid central Australia lies Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, one of three national parks leased by their Aboriginal owners to the Director of National Parks, and jointly managed by Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. Parks Australia assists with ongoing management of the park’s natural and cultural heritage. This branch also manages a rich and fascinating range of island ecosystems and habitats, including oceanic Pulu Keeling, Norfolk and Christmas Island National Parks.
The Executive Officer provides high level operational and professional support to the BNP executive team, and all activities associated within the office. The Executive Officer also undertakes high level project work, developing strategy and coordinating briefing papers with respect to the parks operations.
**The Job**
The Executive Team at Booderee National Park supports Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community, staff and stakeholders in working together to effectively manage the Park. The team supports other teams and builds relationships with key stakeholders, to undertake a range of administration and business management activities, such as finance, procurement, and contract management.
Duties will include:
- Provide direct support to the Park Manager in working with unit managers and team leaders across the Park’s work program, Traditional Owners of Booderee National Park (BNP) as well as external stakeholders to support effective decision making on activities in relation to park operations and visitor experience and management, road mapping and working towards sole management, and looking after country and culture, inclusive of protecting and promoting culture and knowledge to support corporate and administrative processes across BNP, including leading and/or coordinating business and operational planning, workforce planning and recruitment, procurement and continuous improvement initiatives for BNP.
- Assist with collaborating and meeting with Traditional Owners of BNP on country on a regular basis to champion joint management and facilitate effective consultation and ensure that the views of Traditional Owners are considered in decisions related to activities under the Booderee National Park Plan of Management.
- Assist in managing the workflow and preparation of correspondence, reports, Senate Estimates briefs and other documents.
- Assist in managing stakeholders and partnerships.
- Lead and contribute to projects to support the achievement of park level strategic and operational objectives.
- Support internal communication across the Park and act as a point of contact to support collaboration and coordination with department stakeholders.
