The Opportunity
Reporting to the Executive Group Manager People, Culture and Organisational Performance, and in consultation with other executives and key stakeholders, you will be responsible for the delivery of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy.
With the Council part way through a significant journey of change and transformation within the Health, Safety and Wellness function, your remit is to deliver on Council’s vision and Corporate Plan and embed existing and future change initiatives by providing exemplary internal stakeholder engagement across all levels of the organisation.
Leading a team of 9 employees across three business units of Council, you will influence the future success of the Council with a visionary, inspiring and strategic leadership style that focuses on safety, performance, financial sustainability and continuous improvement.
Specific responsibilities
- Providing exceptional leadership and support in building and developing a high-functioning Health, Safety and Wellbeing team;
- Development of short and long-term health, safety and wellbeing strategies that align with strategy set within the Corporate Plan;
- Delivery of Health, Safety and Wellbeing ‘best practice’, ensuring good governance and facilitation of business delivery aligned to Council’s objectives and priorities;
- Engagement across the organisation with a comprehensive and consistent communications strategy embedding process improvements and a culture of collaboration regarding safety processes and initiatives;
- Development of innovative health, safety and wellbeing processes and systems to reduce complexity and compliance behaviours and drive initiatives creating safe and healthy work environments; and
- Oversee and contribute to the execution of WHS Risk Management process, including critical risks and controls and provide technical, organizational and strategic information to inform Council’s Enterprise Risk management processes.
About you
- Significant senior leadership experience in Health, Safety and Wellness across multiple industries;
- Demonstrated success in leading at a strategic level, providing advice and consultation to the executive leadership team as well as operational teams;
- Superior interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with particular emphasis on consultation, collaboration, engagement and ability to influence across all levels of stakeholders;
- Proven success in driving positive health, safety and wellbeing initiatives and outcomes to influence a health, safety and wellbeing culture;
- Demonstrated change management and multifaceted project delivery experience, including successful sponsorship and associated communication strategies;
- Extensive knowledge of contemporary WHS and risk management systems, processes and principles, WHS legislation and experience in managing Workers’ Compensation programs;
