
Principal Policy Officer

In this role you will be part of a small team of like-minded and motivated professionals with a passion for safety and health regulation in the resources sector. Working with coal, mineral mines and quarry, petroleum and gas and explosives inspectorates to identify policy and legislation issues and recommend innovative options to resolve them using a risk based data driven approach.
We have 2 positions available, 1 permanent and 1 temporary to 30 June 2025.You will provide policy advice, develop legislation and progress legislative amendments across the agency on a broad range of matters.
Key knowledge and experience
- Experience in analysis, research and problem-solving at a high level, including ability to interpret complex legislation, identify policy issues and recommend legislative options to resolve them using a risk-based, data-driven approach.
- Experience in policy and legislative development, and related Government processes.
Key challenges
- Interpreting complex legislation and understanding highly technical issues to deliver policy and legislation which provides improved safety and health outcomes for the resources sector industry.
- Negotiate with internal and external government stakeholders on complex and contentious issues to achieve policy objectives and deliver government commitments.
