**Why your Role Matters**
This critical role has been developed to provide strategic oversight in our approach to position management practices and processes. As Position Management Lead, you will work to align UNSW’s workforce structure with the university’s long-term strategic objectives, Enterprise Agreement requirements, and broader workforce planning goals.
Initially contributing to a multi-disciplinary People and Culture (P&C) compliance program, this role will lead a specialist Position Management Team bringing an evaluative eye to reshape polices and guide the establishment of best practice. Working with the P&C systems team, your team will drive the design of workflows as well as system enhancements to improve user accuracy and experience around position establishment and maintenance.
Reporting to the Program Lead, Phoenix, the role will oversee a number of direct reports in their project team to provide expert guidance and ensure compliance and optimisation across the position management lifecycle.
Your focus will be:
- Providing strategic leadership for all aspects of position management, including creation, maintenance, and disestablishment of positions, ensuring alignment with UNSW's workforce objectives and compliance requirements.
- Developing and implementing governance frameworks, policies, and best-practice guidelines to ensure consistency, efficiency, and operational excellence in position management.
- Leading a Centre of Excellence for position management, fostering continuous improvement, innovation, and transparent documentation, whilst upskilling expertise across UNSW.
- Collaborating with key P&C stakeholders to align position management practices, including a P&C Systems and People Data & Insights partnership that enhances position-related workflows, reporting capabilities, and system functionalities; adopting technology solutions to enable system/process improvement.
**Skills & Experience summary**
This role requires exceptional governance capabilities, strategic insight, and the ability to provide expert guidance to ensure compliance and optimisation.
We’re looking for a big thinker to deliver strategies and, where needed, effective change. Holding extensive experience in a HR operations, workforce planning or position management, you will bring a proven track record of furthering best HR practice in a complex and dynamic organisation, alongside the following:
- Ability to manage strategic projects with the drive to develop and implement high-impact policies, frameworks, and process improvement initiatives, implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and compliance
- Strong understanding of position classification, workforce structures, and HR compliance (e.g., Enterprise Agreement requirements).
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and drive collaboration across all levels of the organisation—from operational teams to senior leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data accuracy and governance.
- Proficiency in Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and position management systems, with experience implementing process efficiencies.
