**About the role**
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has a unique opportunity for a Fire Planning Officer to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.
The Fire Planning Officer leads bushfire planning and fire preparedness within the Branch including developing reserve fire management strategies, prescribed burn operations plans, coordination of fire training and supporting the preparation of hazard reduction programs. You will be involved in a hands-on operational component delivering hazard reduction burns and participating in Incident Management Teams across the Branch conducting wildfire suppression. We are a collaborative and supportive team and manage fire across 136 reserves covering over 320 000ha between the Hawkesbury and the Manning Rivers along the coast and west into the Upper Hunter Valley including Ben Halls Gap. The Branch includes Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage Area and two Ramsar wetlands of international significance (Hunter Wetlands and Myall Lakes).
**About you**
Your strong communication skills as well as the ability to build positive working relationships with various stakeholders will be essential for your success in the role. You will have a level of autonomy in making day-to-day decisions relating to work priorities and workload management. You will thrive in a high-pressure environment with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively and undertake strategic landscape as well as successional planning for firefighter roles into the future.
**Essential requirements**
- Relevant qualifications and/or experience in fire and land management practices, with proven experience in delivering program outcomes and project management.
- Demonstrated experience in fire planning and delivering business change results.
- Willingness to work weekends and after hours as required and the ability and willingness to participate in the management of wildfire and other emergency incidents.
- Current Australian drivers licence and willingness to fly in light aircraft.
