**The Role**
Australia is embarking on an unprecedented ship building program. It requires the integration of sophisticated systems from across Australia and our global partners to create highly effective naval combat systems for Defence, and continuous research and integration to keep those combat systems at the cutting edge.

DSTG’s growing team of Combat Systems Engineers and Scientists will play a critical role in the success of this program, transforming the way new capabilities are transitioned from scientific concepts into Defence capability.

As the Discipline Leader Combat System Architectures, you will be responsible for:

- Developing and supervising staff.
- Building detailed knowledge of Australia’s submarine combat system architectures.
- Analysing combat system designs to solve architecture and integration issues.
- Researching and developing innovative combat system architectures to optimise the trade-off between performance and space, weight, power and cooling.
- Develop and enhance combat system architecture S&T expertise within Defence, Australian Defence industry and Australian universities.

**About our Team**
Our team supports the Commonwealth of Australia and United States’ Armaments Cooperative Program for the joint development of the Submarine Combat Control System used by both the Royal Australian and United States navies. We assess and develop architectures, algorithms and operator-machine interfaces to enhance Submarine Combat Control System capability in an Australian operational context.
- Develop, guide and supervise people by providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance standards, delegating responsibility, and managing performance honestly and respectfully.
- Provide the vision, guidance, direction, coordination and collaboration necessary to ensure the discipline’s S&T capability can be harnessed for the delivery of agreed outputs to Defence.
- Support the development and delivery of S&T programs to improve combat system capability in areas including architectures, algorithms and Operator-Machine Interfaces (OMIs).
- Lead the analysis of combat system designs to solve architecture and integration issues.
- Lead the research and development of innovative architectures to optimise the trade-off between performance and space, weight, power and cooling.
- Develop and enhance combat system architecture S&T expertise within Defence, Australian Defence industry and Australian universities.
- Develop and enhance international and domestic relationships and collaborative programs to enhance outcomes for Defence.
- Promote a strong culture of engineering and scientific excellence required to achieve Defence’s outcomes.
