The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking a Head of Catering and Events for the end-to-end management, creative realisation and commercial profitability of catering and events at the NGV. This position is responsible for driving a high level of excellence and quality in retail and functions catering, while ensuring the smooth running of a complex events calendar.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
You will be responsible for the management of all NGV catering contracts, ensuring a high-quality of delivery, innovation, execution and service excellence is achieved and maintained by on-site caterers. Other key responsibilities include:

- Overseeing the planning, management, design and delivery of the NGV events program. This includes leading by example on strategic direction, creative flair, design sophistication, attention to detail in execution, project management, financial planning and resource management to deliver an ambitious calendar of events, including the NGV Gala.
- Managing the Events department by aligning the team with the NGV’s vision, values and goals through effective people management, including clearly defining expectations, inspiring innovation and facilitating employee development.
- Leading the tender process for all catering service agreements across NGV sites including The Fox: NGV Contemporary, in consultation with the Executive Management team, senior NGV colleagues and external specialists as required. You will be managing negotiations in the process of executing these agreements and any subsequent contract variations that may arise throughout agreement periods.
- Establishing and monitoring catering standards, KPIs and outputs in accordance with catering service agreements, analysing the performance of caterers and the overall commercial outcomes of retail catering and functions.

To be successful, you will have relevant tertiary qualification coupled with proven experience in leading and inspiring teams to establish, meet and exceed expectations in performance, service and operations within a fast-paced, high-profile organisation, ideally in the hospitality or food and beverage industry. You generate new ideas, draw on a range of information sources to identify new ways of doing things, actively influence events and promote ideas, translate creative ideas into workplace improvements, reflect on experience and open to new ways to improve practice.

You have extensive experience in the planning, management and delivery of a wide variety of high calibre events within a major venue, undertaken with superior creative flair, financial acumen and attention to detail. You have a flexible approach to hours of work as there will be a requirement to often work after hours and/or weekends.

Previous experience in leading a tender process, from commencement to completion with an understanding of relevant government legislation for the food and beverage industry is ideal.
