People and Business Services is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, responsible for providing business enabling people and corporate services functions, to drive a high-performance culture and to support integrated operations

**About what you will be doing**

As Principal Workplace Relations Advisor you will be responsible for providing expert, strategic advice on a broad range of workplace relations matters to leadership within the department. The role is a key contact point between the Department and Unions for complex Workplace relations matters, and supports transport and planning portfolio agencies within the context of the public sector industrial relations framework. You will:

- Be capable of providing expert and strategic advice, and lead programs of work,
- Engage with franchise and contract management teams (bus, train and tram),
- Prepare complex ministerial advice, correspondence, Possible Parliamentary Questions /Parliamentary Questions on Notice, and Public Accounts and Estimates Committee briefings,
- Manage complex workplace relations cases and investigations,
- Provide strategic input to the interpretation of government policies and legislation
- Review, develop and implement HR policies and procedures,
- Lead and/or contribute to the management of enterprise bargaining activities including undertaking research and liaison across the department and agencies,
- Advocate in industrial tribunals,
- Maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels including, senior managers, unions, staff from central Government and portfolio agencies.

**About what you will need to have**

A builder of relationships, but not afraid to challenge the status quo, you help to problem solve through your persistence and your ability to influence and negotiate.
- Demonstrated experience, and a record of achievement, in managing complex human resource, industrial and/or workplace relations issues.
- Demonstrated experience in gaining agreement and building support and ownership of ideas by using appropriate influence to achieve outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to change, to maintain composure and focus under pressure and experience in actively promoting and driving change.
- Proven ability to deal with concepts and complexity comfortably and use analytical and conceptual skills to solve problems and implement workable solutions.
- Proven ability to provide high level consultancy and advice to internal stakeholders on a range of complex issues.
- Proven experience in enterprise bargaining, as well as providing advice on related matters.
- Demonstrated advocacy experience in external forums and tribunals, including the Fair Work Commission
- Highly regarded will be a sound knowledge and understanding of the legislative, regulatory and industrial instruments relating to employment in the Victorian Public Service, as well as the broader transport sector.

On a personal level you will possess an enthusiasm for Workplace Relations, and you are one who enjoys supporting, advising on and influencing the overall culture of the organisation.

**Qualifications and Experience**

- A tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related field_

**Role Specific Requirement.**
- Role may involve evening or weekend work including occasional overnight travel._
- An ability and willingness to travel and work across locations within metropolitan and regional Victoria is sometimes required.
