AustralianSuper’s $60b Mid Risk portfolio consists of property, infrastructure and private credit. The portfolio has grown considerably over the past few years and is expected to grow at over 20% pa over the foreseeable future. This future growth, driven by strong member inflows as well as investment returns from the existing portfolio, has necessitated the need recruit a new team member who will focus on asset allocation and research in the Mid Risk Portfolio Strategy & Research (PSR) team.
**Your new role**
As an Associate Director within the Mid Risk Strategy & Research team, you will use your broad-based analytical skills and commercial acumen to accurately identify and analyse key investment issues, make recommendations to senior colleagues and develop junior staff. Your knowledge of the private markets will assist the team identify relevant investment opportunities that complement the existing portfolio. You will work collaboratively to lead excellent financial modelling outcomes for the portfolio, and recommend, implement and oversee high quality research pertinent to the strategic priorities of the portfolio.
Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Manager, Mid Risk Portfolio Strategy and Research, the Associate Director will support the PS&R team whilst working closely with the asset class teams (Real Assets and Credit) and internal stakeholders to conduct analysis relating to Mid Risk portfolio asset classes and sectors. The appointee will work to integrate key conclusions into decision-making frameworks for portfolio positioning.
Key Duties will include:
- Asset Allocation (Mid Risk Mix)
- Supporting key decision makers with analysis and modelling to assist in medium term asset allocation decisions within the Mid Risk portfolio;
- Maintaining, uplifting and developing models to support continued development of our Mid Risk Mix decision frameworks;
- Speaking with knowledge on key issues affecting the global infrastructure, real estate and private credit markets, and with relevance to the AustralianSuper Mid Risk portfolio;
- Conducting ad-hoc analysis relating to specific asset classes as required;
- Supporting portfolio management for Listed Mid Risk asset classes.
- Portfolio Construction
- Enhancing the long-term Mid Risk portfolio construction process designed to set the long-term direction for portfolio strategy;
- Integrating the outputs of that process into the Mid Risk Mix;
- Considering the appropriate pricing of risk factors within the portfolio and monitoring of other uncompensated risks.
Research Conducting research as part of working groups or individually to support long-term strategic decision-making within the Mid Risk asset classes.**What you’ll need**
It’s expected that the appointee will have considerable knowledge of investing, portfolio construction frameworks and understanding of overall portfolio objectives.
Essential Capabilities and Experience:
- Strong experience in investment banking, investment management or investment consulting with specific experience around asset allocation, portfolio construction or research;
- Ability to work across the investment department in a team-based environment. Should “think of the whole” and have awareness of other teams in seeking the best outcomes for members;
- Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and engage with senior stakeholders;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Experienced in analysing and interpreting investment data;
- Expert technical financial modelling skills.
- Strong tertiary qualifications.
Desirable:
- Experience in due diligence, transaction underwriting or fundamental investment analysis, ideally within a real assets or private credit environment;
- Experienced in presenting findings to senior management or clients on a regular basis;Compliance / regulatory awareness and familiarity.
