- Extensive investment in facilities and people supporting our significant service expansion
- A culture where people care
Job location
Forensicare provides specialist mental health services for women at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, including Marrmak a 20-bed custodial mental health unit, a specialist outpatient service, and therapeutic day program. There is a strong focus on providing a healing environment not only for people in prisons, but importantly also one that supports the well-being and safety of all staff. This approach recognises that many women who are imprisoned are also victims of crime and have challenging mental health conditions as a result. The word Marrmak is from the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people meaning ‘safe’.
**About the Role**:
- The Senior Social Worker works with the social work discipline leads and educators to develop, plan and implement prison-based social work services to achieve and maintain a high standard of consumer care, consistent with the Forensicare Model of Care.
- The Senior Social Worker provides professional leadership within the social work service, their local team and directorate, and the broader organisation, contributing to service development and research projects, committees and working parties, and the development and review of policy and procedures.

- The position operates within the boundaries set by professional standards, legislative requirements, and organisational policies and procedures.

- Participate in the recruitment, selection and deployment of social work staff when required.
- Engage in and provide clinical supervision to Grade 1 and Grade 2 Social Workers and students.
- Ensure the maintenance of accepted professional standards through formal supervision and performance appraisal of relevant social work staff.
- Complete tasks, research projects and articles for presentation and publication both and outside the service, which enhance the role and function of services to forensic mental health patients and the role and function of the service as a whole.
- Initiate and implement discipline-specific quality improvement activities and contribute to generic quality improvement activities, protocol development and achieving ethical standards within the service.
**About You**:
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of women’s gender-specific needs and pathways into the criminal justice system.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-level leadership, management and supervision of staff and students.
