The Lead, Operational Risk assigns, oversees and undertakes risk identification management, mitigation and reporting alongside business owners aligned to the IAG Risk Management Strategy, Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite Statement.

This role is a visible advocate for driving risk maturity uplift and improvement in operational risk culture within the Direct Insurance Australia Division, and leads activity across the Operational Risk Consultants within the team. A critical success factor for the role is the ability to engage broadly and communicate effectively within IAG to influence enhancements in the businesses risk and control environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Develops and implements the Risk Management Strategy, Risk Frameworks and methodology at a business unit level to increase operational risk maturity
- Provide assurance to the interactions we have with our customers to ensure they are receiving service aligned to the correct processes and policy information through associated risk activity
- Leads the uplift of Risk maturity across Australia via a business partnering model with the Business Unit Risk representatives to facilitate the taking of risk within appetite by risk owners
- Leads business unit risk profiling activity & risk forums alongside the operational risk managers
- Co-ordinates and identifies whether the design and execution of controls are adequate and effective in mitigating risks, including establishing a robust control environment through control and process testing
- Co-ordinates and ensures risk profiles & control test outcomes are regularly updated in the relevant risk systems
- Provides incident management oversight and supports the business owners respond to investigations, managing and resolving incidents and escalations, including the reporting of significant reportable breaches to regulators
- Lead a team of Risk Consultants
- Assigns and oversee workflow activity for aligned Risk Consultants

Skills & Experience
- Risk Management experience, Business acumen
- Strong work ethic, Consultative, Courageous in speaking up
- Experience in General insurance or financial services industry, and exposure to risk management or compliance role
- Knowledge of the insurance industry's trends, directions
- Tertiary qualification/s in Economics /Accounting / Finance / Law or related fields desired
- Relevant industry or specialism qualifications e.g.: ANZIIF, AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 (Risk management -principles and guidelines)
- Understands key parameters and decision factors in managing risk effectively
- Understands the regulatory environment in which we operate
- Developed and executed risk and assurance learning frameworks
- Effective participation in a senior team environment
- Working collaboratively with other business units to achieve division and business unit goals
