Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fourth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing and transport. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.
Greater Shepparton has a population of approximately 65,000, and an expenditure budget in excess of $118 million. The population is culturally diverse with 9.9% of residents being born overseas. The area has excellent education, recreation, cultural, social and health facilities and tourism is a developing focus for the region.

Greater Shepparton City Council is looking for a talented Media and Communications Officer to help coordinate our internal and external communication efforts.
**About the role**
As our Media and Communications Officer, you'll be the central point of contact for media and public communications. From managing media releases and media opportunities, to crafting engaging internal updates and championing council initiatives, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring consistent, timely, and accurate messaging across all channels.
You’ll support both internal and external communications in alignment with the Greater Shepparton Council Plan and corporate Marketing Strategy, helping to foster transparency, engagement, and community trust.
**What you’ll be doing**
- Manage and respond to media enquiries and proactively identify media opportunities.
- Prepare and distribute media releases, statements, and alerts.
- Coordinate media activities for the Mayor, Councillors, and visiting dignitaries.
- Write speeches, internal newsletters, and executive communications.
- Collaborate with departments across Council to ensure consistent and strategic messaging.
- Deliver internal communication campaigns that enhance staff engagement and support positive cultural change.
**What we’re looking for**:
