About Us

Moondarra Cheese is a family-owned Australian company and a leading producer of flavoured cream cheese. In 2023, we expanded into the world of premium artisan cheese with the acquisition of Tarago Cheese, home of the iconic Shadows of Blue.

Eighteen months ago, we opened the Moondarra & Tarago Cheese Shop and Café in Dandenong South. While we proudly feature Moondarra and Tarago cheeses, our shop offers a wide selection of local and international cheeses, curated for true cheese lovers. The café is a key part of our strategy to connect with customers, showcase our products, and share our love of cheese.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Retail / Cafe Manager to join our small but growing team. This is a great opportunity for someone who’s looking to take the next step in their career, bring fresh ideas, and work in a supportive environment where initiative is valued.

You’ll be at the heart of our café and cheese shop, helping with everything from curating cheese selections and driving retail sales to refining a menu that celebrates our range of cheeses. You’ll make sure the space is always clean, safe, and inviting.

Working closely with our marketing and sales teams, you’ll help shape and deliver sales strategies while also leading the roll-out of events, product tastings, and other customer engagement initiatives. You will assist representing the brand at food shows and industry events, helping us share our passion for cheese with an even wider audience.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-day operations
- Oversee and participate in daily café operations, ensuring efficient and welcoming service
- Support the cheese area by interacting with customers, selling cheese, and cutting and wrapping cheese for sale
- Prepare high-quality coffee and food with consistency and pride
- Manage stock, ordering, and reduce waste
- Lead, train and manage small team

Customer and strategic focus
- Contribute ideas to improve café offerings and service
- Collaborate on events, tastings, and cheese-focused experiences
- Help align the café with overall business goals, including sales targets and customer engagement

Compliance
- Maintain food safety and hygiene standards
- Help ensure OH&S and compliance across all operations

What We’re Looking For
- Café, hospitality, or food retail experience (min. 2 -3 years preferred)
- A passion for cheese, ideally you worked with cheese previously
- Proactive and full of initiative, with a hands-on approach
- Barista skills and a genuine love for quality coffee and food
- Experience or strong interest in sales, promotions, or event planning
- Self-motivated with initiative to improve systems and lead with purpose
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Comfortable using POS systems and handling basic admin and stock control
