The Infection Control Coordinator will have a demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control including a working knowledge of key concepts in aged care and infectious disease epidemiology and microbiology, adult education, and Commonwealth Aged Care Standards.

She/he will communicate and demonstrate best practice in Infection Prevention and Control in accordance with BlueCross to decrease outcomes associated with aged care associated infections to residents, aged care personnel, and visitors to our Service.

**The Role**:

- Facilitate planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of key performance improvement projects in collaboration with the local IPC lead and other key stakeholders
- Coordinate all practice changes implemented to align with current evidence-based recommendations and Blue Cross strategic organization goals
- Support the modification of the Infection Control Program to meet changing practices and regulatory requirements
- Provide analysis and recommendations for regulatory standards
- Coordinate investigations of disease outbreaks and exposures
- Support the surveillance activities occurring at residences and guide Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) leads on process changes, improvements, and monitoring
- Partner with key stakeholders for development and update for staff education tools
- Complete an annual gap analysis, provide recommendations, and aid with implementation of improvements to address the gaps
- Involvement with construction activities within residential homes to ensure risk matrix assessment is performed and followed to mitigate construction-related infections.
- Attend residential homes to meet with IPC lead and assess the program each quarter or more frequently as needed

**Requirements of the role**:

- Relevant qualifications and experience
- Demonstrated current knowledge of infection control, infectious diseases, aged care standards
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment
- Ability to problem solve and manage change
- Commitment to professional development

**Desirable**:

- Division 1 Registered Nurse
- Previous Infection Control experience in acute care or aged care sector preferred
- Infection Prevention and Control Certification from a recognized organization
