**Your day as an Associate Economist/Economic Analyst**
Your typical day-to-day work will include contributing to high quality economic advice and analysis in relation to federal financial relations, horizontal fiscal equalization (HFE) and Goods and Services Tax (GST). This will primarily support the Federal Financial Relations branch, though may also support key forecasting work in the Revenue Forecasting and Analysis branch.
This role can include providing advice and research on policy, financial, and economic impacts of vertical fiscal imbalance (VFI) and HFE, analysing priorities for reform, and supporting engagement with Treasury, agency, and other jurisdictional stakeholders. This will include liaising with the Commonwealth Grants Commission as part of its annual work to determine GST distributions across states and territories. This role can also include understanding and supporting methods of forecasting GST revenue as part of the annual budget cycle.

- **Educational Background**: Holds a relevant tertiary qualification in economics, econometrics, statistics, public policy, law, research, evaluation, or related fields. Professional experience in providing policy advice, research, or economic analysis is highly favourable.
- **Research and Analytical Skills**: Capable of conducting basic research and data analysis, including working with models and considering diverse policy perspectives to support economic and policy advice, under supervision.
- **Policy Support**: Demonstrates the ability to support economic and policy advice through thorough research and analysis, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of various policy issues.
