The role The position is crucial in ensuring the delivery of comprehensive, high-quality midwifery care across Queensland Health. This role is accountable for upholding NMBA professional standards while leading the strategic management of midwifery practices within a designated portfolio or project. Responsibilities include collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to evaluate and continuously improve systems that support midwifery and maternity healthcare teams. The role also involves integrating and evaluating models of care to achieve cost-effective services, operationalizing corporate and clinical governance frameworks, and contributing to policy development to ensure best practice outcomes.
The individual must demonstrate advanced knowledge of contemporary midwifery theory and practice, alongside proven leadership in human, financial, and resource management. This role requires the capacity to develop and implement strategies that address gaps and risks associated with state-wide midwifery governance. The position involves providing high-level advice in midwifery practice, education, and research, guiding governance committees and departmental workgroups. Additionally, the role includes fostering professional development, mentorship, and credentialing of midwives, as well as driving the establishment of models of excellence in midwifery across the public health system. A focus on promoting continuous quality improvement, monitoring emerging trends, and implementing innovative practices within the midwifery workforce is essential.
The successful personTo succeed in this role, you should have proven experience in quality and safety, midwifery governance, health management, policy development, and/or professional education and training. You must also be skilled in gathering and synthesizing insights from clinical and professional stakeholders to effectively contribute to state-wide priorities.
Additionally, you should have the ability to multitask and prioritize complex issues within a highly visible and politically sensitive environment. This includes the capability to report to the Director of Midwifery and departmental leaders, such as the CNMO, on midwifery and maternity professional matters. You should also be adept at developing high-level reports, briefs, and strategic responses as needed.
