The Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services currently have permanent entry-level Child Safety Officer (CSO) roles at our Roma service centre.

This is a diverse role where no two days will be alike. Based in the Roma Child Safety Service Centre (CSSC), you will work closely with other CSOs your Senior Team Leader, Child Safety Support Officers (CSSOs) and Cultural Practice Advisors (CPAs) to provide child protection services to 19% of Queensland. Whether you are a new graduate, or a seasoned practitioner Roma CSSC is an ideal place to develop and enhance your practice skills.

You will work alongside other government departments in this thriving rural town to serve the community you live in. As the regional hub for our rural area, Roma has plenty of pubs, clubs, sporting associations, a local rodeo and plenty of country fairs and festivals We are surrounded by nature, and you can use your spare time to uncover the hidden wonders of Carnarvon Gorge and where you will find unique Aboriginal art and endless hiking, camping, and fishing opportunities, and we’re only a 5-hour drive from Brisbane or a 1-hour flight.

**What Does Being a CSO Mean?**

As a CSO, you will be responsible for delivering statutory child protection services including assessment, intervention, casework, and case management in accordance with legislation and practice guidelines. Your diverse role can involve working with children in temporary care, children in their home, children in foster care, their parents, families, communities, and guardians.

Our CSOs work across the whole child protection continuum, and when you join us as an entry-level CSO, you will receive both formal and ongoing training to set you up for success to provide support and advocacy for children and young people.

This continuum encompasses but is not limited to:

- Working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team, to provide integrated child protection practices including intake, assessment, intervention, casework, and complex case management
- Building professional relationships with children, parent, guardians, colleagues, stakeholders, and service providers
- Demonstrating commitment to maintaining cultural capability, engaging in self-directed learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and contributing to a culturally safe and inclusive workplace
- Maintaining accurate case records in line with departmental policies, statutory responsibilities, and the child protection practice framework
- Use evidence-based practices and actively participate in continuous learning, training, and professional development to stay updated on contemporary practices

CSOs are child protection practitioners, we use our skills to engage parents and children in therapeutic relationships that facilitate change. Being a CSO means walking alongside a child and their family at some of the most difficult times in their life, and this challenging role is worth it to see the difference you make.
